A U S T I N | T E X A S

The past several days have been very enlightening. After getting a second opinion about the damage to our RV home, the consensus is that it is uninhabitable and not salvageable as a healthy dwelling for our family; the mold damage is too severe. As a result, we will not be able to continue living as residents at Community First! Village since we won't be able to afford a new RV. We will still continue our mission at the Village, however, through family dinners, evening prayer and blessing cups, coffee and dinner dates, trips to HEB and Home Depot with our neighbors, etc., Please pray for us as God continue to pour out His love into our friendships with our neighbors and friends Community First.

Last summer we bought a used 5th Wheel RV home for our family of eight in order to set out on a mission of love at Community First! Village in East Austin, an extension of the ministry of Mobile Loaves and Fishes. Community First is a 27-acre (soon to be 58 acre) master-planned community providing affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. The founder, Alan Graham, often explains that the single largest reason for homelessness is not mental illness, laziness or alcohol and/or drug addiction, but rather a “catastrophic loss of family.” Our aim, then, in the Village is simply to love as Jesus loves in and through our family. Christ came to wrap us up in the Family of God for all eternity. We came to share in His love with our neighbors at Community First as a part of this Family.

As Catholic missionary disciples with Adore Ministries, we assist the diocese in offering ways for people to encounter Christ. Alongside other Christian missionary residents we aim to cultivate friendships, hospitality, communal prayer and opportunities to serve our neighbors intentionally in mostly ordinary ways with the unifying love of Christ which has been “poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit” (Romans 5:5). We love living here and are surprised daily by the blessings of our neighbors' beauty, humor, humility and love.

We wish you deep joy in the love of Christ,

Aaron & Kate, Kolbe, Mercy, Joseph, Hosea, Norah and Bosco Barta
